For vibrant wines
Respect for nature has always prevailed at the Domaine de la Vougeraie, which has used organic cultivation practices since day one.
Organic means the exclusive use of natural treatments, in the vineyard and in the cellar, which can include copper, sulfur, mineral- and plant-based products. They are sprayed directly onto the leaf.
Biodynamics goes a step beyond organic farming and might be defined as an approach to reinforce life through reactivated or dynamized elements, i.e., those charged with energy in order to reinforce their action on the plant and the soil.
It is a question of seeking the balance between soil, plant, and human hand in order to bring out the best of the terroir. It is very time-consuming work as most of the preparations are handmade. This approach has been proven by leading scientists – indeed, pioneers Pierre Masson and Claude Bourguignon have demonstrated that soils nourished using a biodynamic approach are twice as rich in deep-living microorganisms as regular soil.
The idea of biodynamics is to encourage life; primarily in the soil where the vine puts down its roots and where everything begins. It’s about multiplying the richness of the micro-fauna and flora that breaks down the organic and mineral elements in the soil to make them assimilable by the plant. It’s about ensuring vigorous and healthy vines that are more resistant to diseases with grapes that bear the imprint of the soil or the terroir, to bring it out all its glory, translated through the wine.
Encourage life and biodiversity, multiply the richness of micro-organisms to ensure vigorous and healthy vines
