The appellation

Around 10 kilometers south of Beaune there is a place on the Côte where three great Burgundy white wines meet. Compared to the steep slopes of the Côte de Nuits, Montrachet is surprising because although its name is a corruption of “Mont Rachet”, meaning “bald mountain,” it’s fairly flat and arid.
